Frequently Asked Questions About Hotel Branding
Hotel branding defines what a hotel stands for, who it appeals to and what sets it apart from other properties. Here we answer the most important questions about brand development, positioning and rebranding for hotels.
Hotel branding develops the strategic identity of a property. It defines positioning, brand values, target groups, the brand promise and the characteristics that make the hotel distinctive.
Independent luxury, high-end and boutique hotels in particular need a clear answer to the question of why a guest should choose their property. A strong hotel brand creates this differentiation and forms the basis for communication, design, the website, offers and the on-site experience. Corporate Design then translates these strategic foundations into a visual identity.
Rebranding makes sense when the existing brand no longer reflects the quality, positioning or future direction of the hotel. Typical reasons include renovations, an outdated brand presence, new target groups, a change of ownership or operator, a pre-opening, a strategic repositioning or the move from a hotel group to independence.
A completely new brand does not always have to be created. For the Breidenbacher Hof Düsseldorf, Tablo developed an independent brand identity after the hotel left the Capella Hotel Group. Since many existing elements could no longer be used, the new identity had to establish independence while preserving the recognisability of this long-established property.
At the outset, Tablo analyses the existing brand, its target groups, competitive environment and available materials. Some hotels already have market research and strategic groundwork in place. If these foundations are missing, they can be developed together through analyses and brand workshops.
Based on this, positioning, brand values, target groups, the brand promise and key communication ideas are defined. The scope and process depend on the hotel’s starting point and objectives. Tablo can address individual strategic questions or support the entire development process through to Corporate Design and concrete implementation.
Yes. Tablo develops names for hotels, restaurants, spas, offers and proprietary product lines. Claims and an individual Corporate Language can also form part of a hotel branding project.
The verbal identity is aligned with the positioning, target groups and character of the property. This creates consistent brand communication that is recognisable across the website, campaigns, guest communication and other media. Existing names and wording can also be reviewed and further developed.
Restaurants, spas, retreats and product lines can be closely connected to the hotel brand or developed as independent sub-brands. The right solution depends on how independently the offering should appear and which target groups it is intended to reach.
For this purpose, Tablo develops a clear brand architecture. It defines how names, messages and visual identities are connected. This allows additional offerings to remain recognisable in their own right without losing their connection to the overarching hotel brand.
Tablo’s entry point for strategic brand work is an individual brand check starting at approximately EUR 1,500 net. We analyse the existing brand presence and identify concrete potential as well as prioritised recommendations for its further development. Comprehensive brand development projects including market analysis, workshops, positioning, target groups, brand values, naming, claims or brand architecture are calculated individually. As a result, the hotel receives a documented strategic foundation for future brand management. The visual implementation in the form of a Corporate Design can then be developed as a separate scope of work.
